Until Saturday, May 25, an exhibition of the CarToons series by the well-known cartoonist Toon van Driel can be seen at Gallery Aaldering in Brummen.
F.C. Knudde Toon van Driel (Amsterdam, February 16, 1945) is a Dutch cartoonist, best known for the comic strip F.C. Knudde. After working for some time at an advertising agency and as a steward at KLM, Van Driel came up with this comic strip that revolves around the bizarre experiences of a football club. The comic appeared on the sports page of the Algemeen Dagblad and in a short time the adventures of defender Jaap and goalkeeper Dirk became extremely popular, after which many comic albums followed.
The Regulars Five years after F.C. Knudde made Driel De Stamgasten, in which animals played the leading role this time. Pigs, penguins, camels and giraffes end up in the most absurd situations, often displaying human traits. Another well-known comic strip is the Weltevree Family, which appears daily in the newspaper De Telegraaf. In 1988 Van Driel won the Stripschap Prize for his entire oeuvre and at the beginning of this year he was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau.
CarToon Van Driel is showing his CarToons for the first time at Gallery Aaldering; a combination of the word 'car' and his name 'Toon'. In his characteristic style, Van Driel makes cartoons full of humor with cars in the leading role. We see images of, among others, a Mercedes Gullwing, a Ferrari 250 GTO, a Citroën HY bus and a Messerschmidt. The works are executed in black and white with always one supporting color.
Toon van Driel will be drawing at Gallery Aaldering on Saturday, April 20 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The cars present there will provide sufficient inspiration for new CarToons!
Visit to the exhibition You are very welcome to visit the exhibition. Gallery Aaldering is open from Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. On Saturday the doors are open from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm.
