Until September 3, 2022, Fred Baas will exhibit his “Fine Art Prints” in Gallery Aaldering.
Fred has been drawing cars, mainly classic cars, since his childhood. Not only cars, the extremely detailed drawing of old buildings also keeps him busy every now and then. After also painting for a while, he now works mainly digitally. The notepad has become a tablet and the pencil and pen a digital pen. For the rest, the working method has actually remained the same. Old meets new, so to speak.
The series of automotive Fine Art prints is characterized by a strong use of tonal color. Fred describes the style as cartoonish with a high degree of realism. The inspiration for this effect is mainly taken from the comic books that he used to read a lot by Hergé (Tintin) and Michel Vaillant. A kind of Pop art, but without the “Wow” and “Vroooom” effects.
A lot of attention is also paid to the background of the art prints. From a distance it often appears to be a simple geometric shape, but it often has to do with the "living environment" of the cars. Like a ravine with the Jeep Cherokee, or a Scottish lake with the Jaguar E-type. So definitely worth taking a closer look at the work. Although the later works have become somewhat more abstract in terms of background.
The Fine Art prints are only made in a very limited edition, of a maximum of 10 each. If you want it even more exclusive, that is possible. Fred also works on commission, in which case the print is limited to 1.
