The exhibition “Explore the beauty of decay” by Daan Oude Elferink will take place until October 2. Abandoned, forbidden and dilapidated are the key words surrounding his work. Daan Oude Elferink captures the beauty of astonishing buildings and objects that slowly decay over time. Places that are becoming more and more beautiful but also more dangerous. The adventure is just as important as the photo itself. Climbing roofs, crawling through sewers, dodging security guards and never knowing if it is really safe. Daan always tries to capture that tension in his work. "You will be surprised to know what people leave behind. The reason is often unknown. Beautiful villas, still fully furnished, but everything hidden under the dust, hospitals where patient files lie in the corridors, theaters and dance halls where people long ago went for fun and entertainment and castles where the family photo album is still covered in dust in the cupboard. In my work I try to capture the magic, the story and the feeling of the past. I never give too many details about what really happened, because I think it's important for everyone to fantasize for themselves. In most of my works, there is always that one door or window that opens just a little, making you wonder what's behind it.
I would like to take you into the world behind the 'no entry' signs and the closed doors. My work offers a glimpse of the beautiful, forbidden world of decay as I see it.” The Palms collection
"I was so lucky to be able to photograph the cars in the condition as they were discovered. Not knowing exactly what to expect, I drove to two locations where the cars were discovered: a church and a huge barn. When I opened the door, my jaw dropped. Hundreds of beautiful, very rare classics, hidden in the dark, under a thick layer of dust and soot from the fire. With goosebumps and a big smile on my face, I started photographing these beauties."
